Thank you for your letter regarding Quorn packaging.
With regards to the recycling symbols on our plastic packaging, some of
the items (mostly ready meal trays) we use, do already have the symbols
on the base of the tray specifying what the material is for recycling
purpose. However, we are well aware that some items are not labelled
such as our Quorn Chilled Pieces and Mince packs and Quorn Deli Slices,
but we are working towards adding the relevant symbols in the future.
The plastic packaging that we use can be grouped together as follows:-
Chilled Pieces, Mince, Fillets and Balls tray and lidding film -> PP (Poly Propylene)
Chilled Deli tray and film -> LDPE
(Low Density Polyethylene)
/ HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)
Frozen Pieces and Mince Bags -> LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene
Different Quorn products are packed in different, appropriate types of
packaging. Our paper board material such as sleeves and cartons are all
recyclable. So too are the plastic items of packaging such as
polypropylene trays and polyester & polyethylene film that we use.
All items can also be incinerated with no toxic by products.
In addition to recycling, all our paperboard is from carefully managed,
renewable forests. The plastic items we use are made from virgin
material as they are in direct contact with food, but they can be
recycled and often end up as things like plant pots!
Thank you once again for taking the time to contact us with your
enquiries. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you require
any further information or advice.
Yours sincerely
